As part of the Foreign Policy Institute's "Humanitarian Crises Speaker Series", Sir Mark Lowcock discussed the challenges facing the international humanitarian system in the world of increasing conflict, rising human displacement and growing funding needs. He also outlined the new strategies to address these challenges.
About the Speaker:
Sir Mark Lowcock is the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. In this capacity, he is responsible for the oversight of all emergencies requiring United Nations humanitarian assistance. He previously held the position of Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development (DFID). He has more than thirty years of experience in international humanitarian assistance and development.
